Mobiele telefoon prepaid

Motorola i706 passes through FCC

Whenever an low-level iDEN device passes through the FCC our attention immediately turns to Boost Mobile. Sure, it could be headed for Nextel, but Boost can better handle lower-end devices because it doesn’t offer as large a subsidy as its postpaid counterpart. The slider device features a 1.3 megapixel camera, 2.5mm headset jack, Bluetooth, and an FM radio. We know little else about the device, but because it’s hit the FCC expect an announcement in the not so distant future. Via PhoneNews.com. Huawei Android phone could be headed for prepaid

Above is the Huawei IDEOS, an Android-driven device that will hit markets in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. The GSM bands make it look like a fit for AT&T, though it could be a postpaid offering there. The tri-band CDMA radio, however, suggests a launch with an AWS carrier, meaning Cricket and MetroPCS. It looks like a pretty heavy duty handset, featuring Android 2.2 (a/k/a Froyo), GPS, Wi-Fi, microSD expansion, and more. In other words, it figures to top the Kyocera Rio. There is no word on availability, and even the pricing, said by Huawei to be between $127 and $179, doesn’t seem appropriate for prepaid. Mobile Burn via Phone Scoop. Boost Mobile adds $2/day unlimited plan

Boost Mobile announced a new version of its unlimited plan, a $2 per day option that allows users to truly pay as they go. At midnight each day the customer will have the $2 deducted from her account, after which she can take advantage of unlimited voice, messaging, and web for 24 hours. The cycle then repeats. Boost is billing this $2 charge as “regardless of usage,” so it will apply even if you don’t use the phone. So what might be the advantage to this type of plan, which will cost between $10 and $12 more than the $50 unlimited plan? For some people, having money up front is an issue. I know a lot of people who choose prepaid because they can’t justify spending so much money on a postpaid account. Most of them, then, go for pay-as-you-go, since they can buy top-up cards at a frequency that fits their budget. Some of them would like Boost’s unlimited plan, but might have a tough time coming up with $50 at the beginning of every month. The $2 plan helps remedy that. This is, in a way, a regressive tax. If someone can afford to pay the $50 up front he’d be wise to do that. But if he can’t he then has the option to pay $2 at a time. He’ll end up paying more overall for the service, which is surely a bummer, but he’ll also be able to get the service in the first place. That’s the point, I guess. You can sign up for the $2 daily unlimited plan at Boost Mobile’s website. This post originated at PrepaidReviews.com - The number one resource for Tracfone Prepaid information on the web! Prepaid news roundup

Some days the news brings one item remotely related to prepaid wireless. Other days we’re flooded with news. That has been the case lately. Here’s a rundown of all the stuff we haven’t yet covered today.
  • MetroPCS has introduced Mas Mexico, a plan that provides unlimited calling to landlines and unlimited texting to mobile phones in Mexico for $5 per month. Only customers with a family plan are eligible for Mas Mexico. This also appears to be an introductory price that could rise on December 3.
  • We also saw the Samsung Craft specs leak. The Craft is the nation’s first LTE handset, due to launch on MetroPCS in September. My only question is, why doesn’t it run Android?
  • Wal-Mart has increased its Common Cents distribution to another 500 stores, bringing its total to 1,250. Common Cents offers pay-as-you-go services for seven cents per minute, with round down minutes.
  • At CNET, Kent German interviews Al Moschner, executive vice president and COO at Cricket.
